Dear Friends, Yogis and Yoginis,
What Love requires is the willingness to know and understand
intimately the conditions for the arising of suffering and a commitment
to resolving a problematic existence.
-Christopher Titmus
Christopher was my first ever meditation teacher in 1989 when I
literally stumbled into my first meditation retreat, 10 days of
vipassana in Barre, MA. He was an awesome presence and every night
gave dharma talks that made my head spin, grow quiet and then expand
into the summer sky outside the meditation hall. I was transfixed.
My life would change going forward.
I never heard of him again.
We walked into Ramana’s Café, run by the orphanage
in Rishikesh, and while waiting for our hand-picked organic salads
to be prepared (oh, they were incredible), I sifted through the
stack of books in their library. One caught my eye and I opened
it randomly to this quote. Only then did I realize it was Christopher’s
book, published in 2000.
What a small world it is!
Namaste,
Sarahjoy
